Description
An antique Victorian, c. 1880, rare "End of Day" multi color marbled celluloid hair comb with brilliant jewel tone embedded rhinestones.  The backside is faux tortoise shell coloring.  It's beautiful and a large fancy example.  2 such combs are shown in Mary Bachman's book "Collector's Guide To Hair Combs", ©1998.  Her prices in book are using 1998 values.  I have shown those in the last pic next to this one.  She dates her examples to 1880, which is where I got the date,  and it does fit with the estate it came from.  You will notice in pics that it is bright and cheerful in full sunlight,  more mottled and moody without bright lights.  Love that.  Comb is flat with the slightest curve at the base of top.  Very pretty open work pattern - almost like 2 oval combs coming together and forming a heart in the center.  Could make a wonderful wedding / bridal comb.
Beautiful pre-owned condition.  A drawer treasure.  1 missing blue stone, I did have it, put it somewhere "safe", can't find at this time.   No other loss & no damage that I can see.  Nice and smooth edges, no nicks.  Really lovely.
Measures approx. 5-3/4" tall overall, 3-1/8" tall decorative top part.  Approx. 7-7/8" across at widest.

INSURANCE & DELIVERY CONFIRMATION (or Signature if over 0.00) is INCLUDED in the shipping & handling fee.
